Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Christian Church (Updated)

Holy Trinity is just remarkable, the size and beauty of this building blew me away. As I driving up to it a smile and genuine sense of awe hit me, and didn't leave until well after I left.

Located in Carmel at the corner of 116th st and Shelbourne Rd. the church has over 2,000 members!

The church has roots dating back 1910, during the years of 1919-1959 they were located at North West St and W Ohio St, moved to N Pennsylvania St. and E 40th St. then to it's current location of the Byzantine temple which opened in 2008.

As I was outside taking photographs I spent a few minutes talking to Father Gounaris, he was on his way out so the conversation was brief, but he showed an interest in what I was doing (or at least he pretend quite well), and asked me to e-mail the church about the site.
Update:
I got an email from Father Gounaris about the site, he invited me to come to by and take some photographs on the inside.

This is the view looking right up over that massive golden dome, which is located right in the center of the sanctuary.

The interior of the church is very warm and inviting, the detail is everywhere even in the columns, as I was arriving the bells were chiming the hour mark, and inside there was some beautiful music playing that filled the sanctuary, which made gave it great feeling while I was photographing.
I must admit while the sights and the beauty of this church is very very impressive, I know very little of this faith. While I did take several religious study courses in college, it has been a while so I am rusty, and Greek Orthodox is not something I have came across before. So while there are some very beautiful and interesting sights in this church I would have a hard time telling you what everything is, and I didn't want to bother the Father with a lot of questions. It's just more motivation to hit the books and do more research!

The photos above are from the social area of the church.

I want to send a special thank you to Father Gounaris not only for taking time out of his day to let me in and giving me permission to photograph inside, but also the kind words about my site.

I recommend if you are by the area swing by this temple and take in, it truly is an amazing site. My photographs do no not does this place justice.

A little information on the site of the church from 1919-1959 is located here.

All Souls Unitarian

Located on 56th St. and Channing Rd. just east of I-465 on the north east-side of Indianapolis is All Souls Unitarian.
I was headed to friends house on July 4th for a cookout when I went up to his area of town a little early to take photos of churches in the area. As I was taking pictures a lady who was doing work outside the church asked me if I was with a sign company (the questions I get from people when they see me outside taking photos are pretty wide ranging), I said no and told her about the site and what I was doing. She said i didn't want to photograph the church sign because it had seen better days and they are replacing it soon. I replied I will email the church with the site information, and when you get the new sign I will be more than happy to drive back up and update the post....as you can see I am a bit late getting to it.

The church has a history dating back to 1903 and the current location has been home since 1959! Their website contains a wealth of information on the unitarian faith, the history of the church, sermons, and much more. They have a memorial garden located on the grounds that I didn't see and a pretty neat interior, so hopefully I can go back and they will allow me to shoot some inside.

Their website is located here.

Etz Chaim Sephardic Congregation

Judaism makes it's first appearance on the site, with the Etz Chaim Sephardic Congregation it is located on Hoover Rd. right next to the Jewish Community Center.

The congregation itself has a history dating back to 1906, their website contains a very lengthy history and background of group and their journey through the city.

The building has some very pretty stained glass windows, I tried to take some photos but they didn't come out very well. I will try and see if I can get permission to take some pictures inside.

If you click to see the full size you can get a good view of the design of the window.

Thanks goes to my friend David for recommending this location

Greater New Hope Church

Look closely at the two signs, I took a picture of each side, thought that was kind of clever.
Located directly across the street from Augusta Christan Church (see previous post), this building is newer than the one across the street as it was opened in 2005.
The church has been around 1981, and has had the same pastor through out that entire time. They started in a small house with only 6 members, and how have their new building that houses classrooms, a book store, and a full service kitchen.

please excuse the slightly crooked photos, I took these when I started this project.

The church's website is located here.

Augusta Christian Church

Located off of 71st street just eats of Rodebaugh Rd. is Augusta Christian Church, and thats about all I know, while they have a website it doesn't contain much information.

If I come across anymore information I will be sure to update this post.

Eagle Church

My friend Keith, who is a big fan of the site, invited me to come up and take pictures of his church. Located in Whitestown on S 650 E just off of SR-334, it is basically a large white cube, with no real marks of a church, which makes this building all the more intriguing.

While it looks like a giant marshmallow on the outside it really does have some really cool features on the inside such as the worship center, classrooms, a sports complex, performing arts center, and conference and convention center. While this building opened in 2000 the church has been around since 1992 where it has 40 people meeting in a hotel conference room to this awesome building where they have over 700 in attendance each Sunday.

Special thanks to my friend Keith for not only suggesting this church, but also the information I pestered him about he provided me.

The Church has a website located here.

The Church has a student ministry here which Keith designed (and did a great job at it too!).

Bethesda Temple Apostolic

This is one of the churches that I thought just simply post the pictures and be done with it, this turned out to be something more than what I was expecting. I had a plan to shoot five (I got 4, one was holding a farmers market in it's parking lot) churches today, this was the last one on my  list, by then the sky was turning gray as it was about to storm, and there were plenty of cars in the parking lot, so I decided to make this a quick trip.

The church dates back to 1957 where it has occupied three different buildings and now located in it's current location at 63rd St and Michigan Rd.

I apologize for the lack of pictures and odd angles, I was trying to make use of what blue sky I had left and there were a lot of cars in the back and I wasn't able to shoot around them. As I was headed out to the car I ran into Pastor Fields from the church and I told him what I was doing, he is a extremely nice guy and he asked me to email him the site...but the church's website doesn't have a email listed, but they do have a facebook group I will there (I really need to make business cards for this). Hopefully I can get the time to come back to take better pictures and talk to Pastor Fields more.

The church's website is located here, it has online sermons and a video tour of the church which is pretty neat.
