Mt. Zion Church Eaton, IN

Built in 1860 (the cemetery behind it started in 1840) the single room church is located on the West Eaton-Wheeling Pike at the N 100w intersection. From what I heard the church is still used today albeit for only one day a year (I have no idea when or how it is operated, I am currently looking into it). The windows are covered with wood panels, and those panels are nailed into the frames, but there was one where a little part of it was broken so you can somewhat look inside, neither my Dad or myself could force our cameras in to the opening to take a shot, I was able to slide my blackberry in there to take a couple shots of the inside.

You look on the back of the church you can see the start contrast in the bricks, obliviously a repair job but thats all I know of it.
These were the best shots i got of the inside, I love to go back and take a real photograph of the inside.

The entrance to the cemetery behind the church, I did take some photographs of the area but the only thing that stood out was there were two graves that were made of of cast-iron one dated 1849 and the other 1882 and they are in wonderful condition.

United Methodist Church Eaton, IN

Just around the block from First Christian Church is United Methodist located on South Elm St.

If you can't make out the lettering on the cross it says: TETELESTAI which is Greek for 'It Is Finished' more information on that saying can be found here.

Be sure to check out my previous post i added two photo's from the '50s taken by my Great Grandfather.

First Christian Church, Eaton, IN

Today's entry takes me to Eaton, IN a small town north of Muncie with a population of about 1,600. I have attended this church when i was very little with my grandparents, I do not remember much about the church but since I make the trip up to the town quite often I will do more research as well take better photos.

A couple of the photos were taken at different times, and a different camera.

UPDATE:
I have found a couple of old slides my Great Grandfather took of the church from i believe the '50s, as you can see not much has changed...much like the town itself.

Abundant Harvest United Methodist Church

I can think of no better way to start off this blog than to feature the church I once use to attend located at the corner of 79th and Ditch. The name was changed in 1997, (It used to be called White Harvest), the playground out back has changed, but the outside of the building hasn't changed, the building it's self was built in 1963, and the sanctuary was rebuilt in 1977 after a fire damaged it the previous year.

The pastor who was there when I attended is no longer there he told a lot of jokes most of which i never got, I remember one day we came home from church and I told my dad that i had finally got some of the pastor's jokes and laughed at them, 'That's because you are getting older and more mature' my dad replied... I never laughed at another one of my pastor's jokes ever again. But i did have a pretty big crush on the pastor's daughter...well the extent of a crush you can have at thirteen.

I took the photos somewhat late in the afternoon as a few test shots, i haven't had the chance to ask if I can shoot inside but I will soon. I will also go back and take better photos as well, I thought the sun would make a nice touch but with out the proper filter, it just got in the way.

The church's website is located here, they have a photo album of the early days of the church which is worth checking out.
